However, the abrupt removal of fuel subsidies in May 2023 led to petrol prices soaring by nearly 500%. This drastic increase has illuminated the hidden costs associated with diesel generators, making solar energy a more appealing option.
The Financial Benefits of Solar Adoption
According to Femi Adeyemo, Arnergy's CEO, their focus has transitioned from providing uninterrupted power to demonstrating the cost savings associated with solar systems. Previously, the average cost for power, combining various sources, had skyrocketed to around ₦200,000 (~$125) monthly. With Arnergy's solutions, this expense can drop to ₦96,000 (~$60), offering a compelling case for businesses looking to optimize their energy investments.
Lease-to-Own: A Game Changer for SMBs
One of Arnergy's targeted offerings is its lease-to-own product, Z Lite, which has rapidly gained traction among customers. This model allows businesses to pay off solar systems in modest monthly installments over five to ten years, making solar energy more accessible than ever. The company's revenue from lease-to-own options has grown substantially, representing a changing perception of renewable energy in Nigeria.

As Arnergy scales its operations, they expect their lease customer base to 4-5x this year, a testament to the shifting energy dynamics in Nigeria.
